The locations we superb - particularly enjoyed Gutter bar at Moreton (they arrange a 4wd to take you a short trip directly from and landing pad), and Harrigan’s Irish pub. Detailed knowledge of the areas and commentary. The experience was tailored and the pilots flexible with timing at locations, enjoyed having a laugh, and displayed the high test quality and professionalism. The service and engagement by the pilots was amazing. I can guarantee you will have a smile on your face for days afterwards.Excellent day! We did a full-day pub crawl with Bekaa Air in September- hired two helicopters as we had a larger group. I could go on and describe the start-up procedures and actual flight but that would spoilt it for you. We then watched the owner and pilot Phil Connolly carefully back the helicopter out of the hangar with a small tractor.

This was followed by the kitting up in flight suits and fitting of full safety harnesses. Following the hanger walk round, everyone was invited to the briefing which covered the safety procedures, flight route and much, much more. If you have an interest in the Vietnam War or just militaria, then this place is for you. The hangar also doubled up as a museum with many interesting period artefacts, from an M1 helmet, M16 rifle to rotor blades and cockpit instruments. Afterwards we were shown around the hanger and saw for the first time the Huey sitting resplendent in her period paintwork looking like it had just come out of the Bell Helicopter factory. Everyone at Huey Helicopters were extremely friendly and totally professional, which made for a very relaxing time. After arrival both those flying and their guests were treated to a welcome tea/coffee and were introduced to the owner, pilots and crew. The whole afternoon spent with Huey Helicopters was just amazing. I would highly recommend you give this a try. The weather was a little grey and damp and I did initially feel a little cold, but it either warmed up or the excitement just took over and made me forget. In some ways I was oddly envious of my friend who stayed on the ground, as he got to see and hear it take off and land - but he took videos for me to watch back later. And that noise! When the chopper banks and that thud of the rotors changes pitch, you instantly think on the Vietnam movies you've likely seen over the years. I've been in helicopters before but nothing you can compare to this. I want HIS job! The thrill of flying with those doors open is just amazing.
Any apprehensions were washed away with the confidence and enthusiasm of Crew Chief Keith. There are only two of these available (no one sits where the gunners would sit) so it is a lottery as to where you may be positioned. I was fortunate (ahem, demanding) enough to get a side seat (see photo). The entire crew are so friendly and welcoming - they clearly take pride and enjoy what they do and who can blame them. I've had my eye on this for a couple of years now, waiting for dates to appear and restrictions to end etc, so when they became available I phoned and booked on immediately. I thought the only place I would ever get the chance would be somewhere in the States or a place in Cape Town I once stumbled across when Googling Huey rides. I've been wanting to ride in a Huey with the side door open for so long.
